Stories from Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan
In Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan there are few places where parents can send their children to be cared for in an atmosphere of love and encouragement. It was in response to this need that local volunteers decided to set up a new and very different kindergarten. Here, fifteen children between the age of one and five are looked after by people who are willing to spend time investing in their futures. The kindergarten is entirely locally run and had received no foreign aid, so resources were scarce.
Crossroads responded to their need by donating a variety of goods including storage facilities for the kitchen, blankets for the dormitory, as well as toys and play equipment that have transformed the atmosphere of the kindergarten, filling it with colour. The children delight in their new ball pool and their joy is clearly visible. Said the kindergarten's director, “You sent us the goods we really needed…thank you.”
